Naked decorating: because clothes & paint dont mix
You know those jobs you keep putting off because they sound like a massive faff? For us, that was decorating the photography studio. We’d been meaning to give it a proper spruce-up for ages — a lick of paint here, a fresh bit of wallpaper there, a deep clean to finish it all off. So when Chris had a week off work, we decided: right, let’s do it. Let’s tackle the chaos and make the studio sparkle again.
But, in true Bare With Us fashion… we decided to do it naked.
Yep. Three full days of painting, wallpapering, cleaning, and tidying — completely nude.
Before you raise an eyebrow, hear us out. The studio windows are frosted (so no unsuspecting postmen were traumatised), and we figured, why not? No clothes to ruin, no sticky paste on your sleeves, no jeans restricting your bend-and-stretch moments. Just total freedom.
And do you know what? It was brilliant.
There’s something ridiculously liberating about going about ordinary, mundane tasks without a single stitch on. We laughed non-stop. We chatted. We sang along to music while balancing on ladders and managed to paint walls without painting each other — well, mostly. It wasn’t about being risqué or rebellious; it was about being comfortable, free, and completely ourselves.
Decorating naked turned out to be one of those unexpected experiences that just works. No sweaty clothes clinging to you. No paint splatters to scrub out later. And honestly? It felt like a full-body mindfulness session. You become very aware of your body — not in a self-conscious way, but in a natural, connected, present way.
There’s something about naturism that just brings that sense of calm. Whether we’re at an event, in the garden, or apparently, painting the studio walls, it’s that same feeling — confidence, acceptance, and total comfort in our own skin.
We finished the job feeling proud (and a little smug). The studio looks fantastic, we didn’t ruin a single item of clothing, and we added another fun memory to our ever-growing list of “things we’ve done naked.”
So if you’re planning a bit of DIY soon, maybe give it a go. You might just find decorating naked isn’t as daft as it sounds — it’s freeing, fun, and surprisingly practical.
Who knew paint rollers and body confidence could go hand-in-hand?
